Shepherds Grain Elevator Fabrication

Heavy Welding Specialists successfully fabricated and installed a 34-metre elevator after the original supplier was unavailable, delivering the project on time, improving design efficiencies and securing ongoing client partnerships.

The Challenge

Shepherds Grain required the installation of a 34-metre elevator along with dead and fumigation upstands. Initially, a different contractor was scheduled to manufacture and install these components. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the contractor was unable to travel to Australia, leaving the project without a key supplier. Heavy Welding Specialists were presented with the opportunity to fabricate the elevator and the necessary components for the chutes, ensuring the project remained on schedule.

Our Solution

Upon taking over the fabrication of the stand and components, our team identified multiple design inefficiencies and potential improvements. We proactively brought these to the client’s attention, proposing modifications that enhanced the durability and functionality of the structure. The client appreciated our insights and agreed with the revised approach. We efficiently reallocated resources and optimised our workflow to ensure the project’s successful execution.

The Result

Despite the unexpected changes in supplier arrangements, the project was completed on time and met all performance requirements. The 34-metre elevator, designed for a capacity of 350 tonnes per hour, was successfully fabricated and installed. Our ability to mobilise skilled labour, adjust project schedules and maintain high-quality standards ensured the client’s satisfaction. Having worked with this client for three years, our successful delivery of this project has secured additional future projects.
